Mental health is still underrated today. It’s the silent killer. It’s exacerbated by the omnipresence of social media, the dilution of the individual in a web of individuals exposing themselves publicly. 24/7. Tattooed, pierced, decorated with PHDs, diplomas, certificates, careers, titles, followers, anything to make them substantial, giving them a reason to exist, a reason to have a voice. The web has become their global platform and everyone is on there watching, searching for soulmates, craving virtual companionship, looking for parallels, similitudes, archetypes, anything that will reassure them in their right to exist, to be alive. Give meaning to everything. Find a simplistic theory of everything in the most ordinary acts, in the midst of the most undescribable chaos. Pictures of food, of animals, of grand-children, health tips, mental health inspirations, inspirational quotes, religious quotes, pretty symbols. Everything is public and it’s wreaking havoc on the young and vulnerable. They struggle to identifiy.
We will face a huge mental health crisis very soon.
Maybe it’s already here but we don’t see it. It’s hidden in plain sight.
“They stuck me in an institution
Suicidal Tendencies
Said it was the only solution
To give me the needed professional help
To protect me from the enemy, myself”
